Group therapy is a therapeutic approach that is designed to overcome such problems as depression, anxiety, social phobias (fears), chronic pain, substance dependence, gambling (gambling addiction), eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia), aggressiveness, excessive shyness, Feeling of loneliness, low self-esteem and others. Group therapy is 60 to 120 minutes and can be conducted in homogeneous (with one problem) or heterogeneous (with different problems) groups.
The goal of group therapy is for a person to listen to, consider, and dialogue with different and opposing opinions. One of the tasks during treatment is to improve the patient’s level of empathy and self-esteem. During group therapy, the therapist uses available psychotherapeutic methods and techniques to solve the group members’ problems and considers the group members’ wishes and needs.
